Postpartum & Postnatal Care
Care doesn't stop at birth.
Michael provides postnatal follow-up addressing physical recovery, infant feeding concerns, pelvic floor health, and emotional wellbeing, with referral pathways to pelvic floor physiotherapy and other specialists as needed. Michael is also proud to offer patients a midwifery review at two weeks, to ensure patients feel supported following discharge from the hospital.
What this involves
Review of physical recovery following birth
Discussion of infant feeding concerns
Assessment of pelvic floor health
Check-in on emotional wellbeing following birth
Referral to pelvic floor physiotherapy or other specialists where appropriate
Who this is for
This is relevant to all women following birth, whether your pregnancy and birth were straightforward or more complex, as part of ongoing follow-up care.
Why Choose Dr Michael Silagy
Michael's collaborative approach extends well beyond birth. He works alongside specialist pelvic floor physiotherapists and midwifery colleagues to support your recovery, and, as the same obstetrician who has cared for you throughout your pregnancy, provides postnatal follow-up with a clear understanding of your history and birth.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does postnatal follow-up usually happen?
This is generally arranged at the six week mark following delivery. Michael will let you know the recommended timing based on your birth and recovery.
What if I'm having feeding difficulties?
Feeding concerns can be discussed at your postnatal review, or by contacting us at any time, with referral to a lactation consultant or other relevant support where needed.
Is pelvic floor assessment routine?
Pelvic floor health is a standard part of postnatal review, with all patients encouraged to see a pelvic floor physiotherapist where appropriate.
What if I'm not feeling like myself emotionally?
Emotional wellbeing is an important part of postnatal follow-up. If you're finding things difficult, this is worth raising at your review so appropriate support and referral pathways can be discussed. Your mental health and emotional health is screened throughout your pregnancy and postpartum with support and referral pathways used as needed.
